It may have nothing to do with your firewall.
Is the MLM running on an AIX 4.3.3 system? In that case you
need to be aware of the situation with the snmp agent at various
maintenance levels of 4.3.3 to enable sets.

A repost of a recent summary....
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Here, to paraphrase our friend George in Netview support,
are the 4 stages of SNMP security on AIX 4.3.3, bos.net.tcp.client:

1) Off:
2) On, and no way to turn it off: -
3) On by default, but you can turn it off with the -U:
4) Off by default, but you can turn it on with the -S: and up

Current AIX maintenance levels will bring you to (4) and you won't have
to do anything. If you are at stage (3), search the archives for the
posting with the subject 'Briefing:AIX snmpd fails set with error status 4'
for details on how to turn it off. The archives are at www.tkg.com/nv-l.

If this is NOT an AIX MLM, ask again....

Hi all.
For a customer we built up an environment to test the communication between
NetView and a corresponding MLM over a Checkpoint Firewall but we have
problems in doing snmpset from Netview to the MLM. snmpget is working. We
opened all ports on the firewall but the problem is still remaining. When
we connect Netview and MLM directly snmpset works fine. Has anybody of you
any idea to solve this?
Thanks in advance.
