Actually the documentation we received does tell you that it will use port
8888 and you should check the services file for any ports in conflict...
Check out the "TME10 NetView V5R1 for UNIX" Release Notes, page 16. There
are times when the Answerbook is not installed. Our first installation we
installed on a Sol8 box was for testing and I had no problems, yet when I
installed for production I forgot all about this and ran into this issue. I
then remembered that the Answerbook was on 8888 and made the change. Make
sure and make this change from the Answerbook HTML Admin interface or your
link to Answerbooks will take a dump.

Does this group have a FAQ anyplace? Something like this would be great in
a FAQ.

Thoughts?

This is an out-of-the-box gotcha when Solaris 2.8 is involved.
documentation needs to warn about it!

Hi all,

just for information:
the reason why NV didnot start was that
the Answerbook Server used port 8888 which
ovtopmd needs.

I configured the Answerbook server to port 8887
and NV did start.

Thanks to Frank and Pieter!!

The topology daemon uses it:

ovtopmd 8888/tcp # NetView IP Topology daemon
