Event delay in Java web client

I've noticed that events that appear in the normal NetView control desk
do not always appear immediately in the java client event display. The
delay seems to vary from a few seconds up to an hour. This is with the
"refresh" slider on the java display set to "fast". Does anyone know why
this may be?
