All of your strange map issues point to the users having a different map than
you do.
Do an ovwls and see how many maps you have.    If you do not want the users to
have their own maps, then you must delete them.  But as long as they do, then it
is possible for each map to conatin different objects and to manage different
objects.

Objects are managed per map, so if you have more than one, the objects must be
unmanaged on each of them to be considered truly unmanaged in your enterprise.
You have to open each map read-write and unmanage the object in each of them for
that.   If you right click on the object and select Tools and Object properties,
it will tell you how many maps the object exists in and how many maps it is
managed in .

I believe this is all explained in the Admin. Guide.


The use of a client merely offloads the overhead of the NetView X-client to
another box, reducing the load on the server.  Other than that, there is no real
difference telnet session for another user.   If your server can handle the
impact of the telnet, then you have nothing to worry about.

Running netview 5.1.2 on solaris and have some strange map issues.
I have created some logins for our operations people and just removed some
of their permissions etc.
I have created a new host file to conform to a new naming convention. I cant
however get the objects to pick up the new names. Does this only happen at
discovery time. Would I have to delete the objects and rediscover.
Have tried logging in using the default  nv_sec admin profile. I manually
renamed some of the nodes which is a slow way of achieving the same thing.
If I log in as one of the operators these changes are not there.
The other confusing thing is managed and unmanaged devices. If Im logged in
an object may be unmanaged but to our operators it is managed, very
confusing.
I havent got another sun box to build a Netview client so we are all running
x windows sessions. Usually one for operations and when I use it a second
session. Is that ok?
