One way would be to write your own map application in NetView to do it, and
somehow have Sentry kick that off. I take it that the latter is too much
effort. Another alternative is to use a user-generated SNMP trap to do it.

To change the color of an icon on the NetView map you would have send a specific
NetView trap (58916871), or one of your own devising, back to the NetView
server to update the status of some user-created icon at the interface level,
below the Node itself, on the map. This would then propagate up to the Node
level and change the color (presumably to yellow). And then you would have to
have a matching mechanism to reset things back the way they were. So the
question becomes, can Sentry send such a trap? Can it send any traps? Can you
control what they say? If not, then can Sentry cause a script to run? You
could obtain the standalone version of snmptrap, which is shipped as part of
MLM, and use that to send the trap you want, from any box which supports MLM.
I know that Sentry and MLM can work together, but not knowing very much about
either of them, I am not certain how.

Be aware that this solution is basically a kludge and you will be responsible
for making it work, not Tivoli. There's no guarantee about performance or
anything like that. And it will only work if the NetView you send the trap to
has the read-write map up at the time and also has the events window running.
Are these limitations acceptable?

Subject: integrating TEC & NetView

Hello,

i'd like to know if it's possible to integrate the TEC with NetView more
than TIPN offers. This is, for example, if a Sentry monitor detects a
problem with a server's database, this server should change its colour
in NetView map to provide a graphical sight to the TEC (not only
scrolling events). Anyone has experiences in this area?

thanks a lot,
