Good points but they need a bit of clarification

(1) You might need to move /usr/OV/snmp_mibs if you added more MIBs to it.
Many people do since that is the default place they are stored. Granted you
don't need them if you have already loaded them and are transferring the snmpmib
and snmpmib.bin and snmpv2mib and snmpv2mib.bin files, but if you should
unload the MIBs on the new box for some reason, it would be nice to have the
original text files saved somewhere so you can re-load them later.

(2) trapd.conf is read only when trapd is restarted or when trapd is notified
that chnages have been made.
If trapd is running when you transfer the trapd.conf then you can get him to
read the new one with
     event -e FMTCHG
which sends an event notifying trapd that the trapd.conf has been changed.
xnmtrap does this very same thing automatically when you click the last "OK"
button.

But if trapd is down, it should be sufficient to just replace the trapd.conf in
/usr/OV/conf/C/trapd.conf with the one you want and re-start trapd.

You also do NOT need to move over the /usr/OV/snmp_mibs/ directory over to
your other system. It is sufficient to just move over the other files you
mention.

Another thing that I have noticed is that any implemented changes in your
ftp'd "trapd.conf" file are not made until you "touch" this configuration
via the GUI (i.e., via "xnmtrap"). Thus, after you ftp the trapd.conf file
over, execute "xnmtrap &" and make a change, change back, and then click
"Apply" or "OK". I don't know why this is the case, but it is true.

Sure. We load customer configurations that way all the time.

Hello all,

I have loaded mibs and added traps on one nv6000 server v5.1.2 AIX and
would like to configure another new NV6000 v5.1.2 AIX server with the same
loaded mibs and traps configuration, would it be possible to copy
/usr/OV/snmp_mibs, /usr/OV/conf/trapd.conf, /usr/OV/conf/snmpv2mib,
/usr/OV/conf/snmpv2mib.bin on to this new server and run with that
configuration ?

Thankyou Greg Adams
