This is exactly what I do but I point the node-to-be-deleted to the
loopback port 127.0.0.1 so no packets go on the wire.
I also set the snmp-config poll interval to 10 sec and clear the
snmp-confg cache to make the change active.  (xnmsnmpconfg -clearC

NOTE!!! In absence of a DELETE NODE COMMAND.  This method can also be
used to DELETE NODES from map if you set the DELETE NODE INTERVAL
shorter than the POLL INTERVAL and clear cache.  T
