Niko, do I understand you correctly, that when you ping the ethernet
interfaces
on the 30+ branch Router 2, those routers start ISDN connections back to a
Router 2 at the central site? Are you sure you want to do that? Doesn't it
cause
bills to be generated? Most of us are trying hard to avoid doing that.

I may have misunderstood. Anyway, if you want to stagger the polling cycles
of a lot of interfaces on a particular router, you could try making three
or more
groups of interfaces, and assigning them slightly different intervals, like
5, 6, and
7 minutes. You can configure the interfaces individually in Options..SNMP.
I don't know that you could guarantee that they would not converge after
some
time.

Cordially,

My customer have a lot of branches with the following configuration:
In each branch there are two routers, the Router 2 has two interface:
ethernet and isdn. In the POP there is a router who receive the isdn
calls
from a lot of branch routers but supports (at the same time) up to 30 isdn
calls.
The network is managing by NetView AIX 5.1.1. Router 2 has the isdn
interface
unmanaged and managed just the ethernet interface. Router 2 (according to
its
configuration) when receive a pachet in the ethernet interface route this
through the isdn interface . NetView ping for status information the
ethenet
interface of Router 2 in the branches (there are more than 30) but the
Router 3 cannot manage all these isdn calls so the Router 2 appears in the
NetView submap in critical status BUT if you ping it after a while the
NetView
will report the status correctly.
I am wondering if can "customize" the netmon ping (maintain the ping
interval)
in such way that won't ping "at the same time" all the ethernet interface
of
all Router 2.
Any idea or hint ?.
Thanks a lot.
