Hi

Is it possible that he is at  "bad" patch level,  which has issues with
symbol status at 5.1.1 ?

Steyland - this is a long shot - but, do Edit --> Modify/Describe --> Symbol
and make sure the Status Source is set to "Compound (Propogated)" and not to
"Symbol" or "Object".
