I don't understand Gil. You have to have a read-write map open but it does not
have to be under root.
My 5.1.2 works fine that way. The browser will need some map or other open
read-write, period.
You could create another map. Is that what you were thinking of?

Is this the append from Leslie you have in mind? Dated 05/19/99:

The web browser will latch onto the first running r/w ovw that it finds.

You can have more than one map in Netview. 'default' is one map. You can
make
more maps, each with an IP Internet submap. Check out File...Save Map As
and then
customize that map to be different. Call is something else besides
'default'.

Now you have two maps, and the consequent increased level of administration
that
goes with it (eg nodes must be deleted from all maps to be rediscovered.)

You can open map A on the Server. If it is r/w, the next browser you start
will
see that map. If you close that map, and open map B r/w somewhere else (eg
on an
X-emulation session somewhere), and then start the browsers, they will see
that map.
Now you can open map A (r/w if you want) on the Server and see something
different
than the browsers are seeing.

What will happen if you start more browsers, or restart the original
browser at this
point? I don't know. They will see the 'first one they find', whatever that
means.
You could try it and let us know....

All:
I have upgraded to AIX NV5.1.2 and the only problem I had so far is, that in
order for the Web server to function, I need the "READ/WRITE" map open under
root. I had this problem when I upgraded to 5.1.1.
Leslie Clark posted the work around, but, I have lost it.
Does any one have a copy of Leslie's note or know the solution?

Thanks in advance.
