You and I still aren't communicating. What I mean by "same exact
response" is this, for my box "racecar" at 9.37.40.192 (these are the
exact responses). When I use one of our routers with multiple cards I get
the same kind of response - 1 IP address maps to one and the same short
name and fully qualified name and no more.

nslookup racecar >

     Server: ralns2-tr6.raleigh.ibm.com
     Address: 9.37.32.3

     Name: racecar.raleigh.ibm.com
     Address: 9.37.40.192

nslookup racecar.raleigh.ibm.com >

     Server: ralns2-tr6.raleigh.ibm.com
     Address: 9.37.32.3

     Name: racecar.raleigh.ibm.com
     Address: 9.37.40.192

nslookup 9.37.40.192 >

     Server: ralns2-tr6.raleigh.ibm.com
     Address: 9.37.32.3

     Name: racecar.raleigh.ibm.com

When DNS responds to a name resolution request, it sends all the address
records. However, they are not always in the same order.

When you say "exact same response" does that mean that the same list of
addresses needs to be returned (good), or that they need to be returned in
the same order (bad)?
