Hello Netview/Optivity-folks around the world,

we would like to reduce unnecessary broadcast traffic flooding our
Wide-Area-Network.

Besides a lot of other things, Bay-Token-Ring-Hubs are sending out
frames which I assume are not necessary for the Netview- nor the
Optivity-Autotopology-function.

Here are two of them as an example for You:

The frames are sent out 2 times per 10 seconds as Single-Route- and
All-Route-Broadcast destined to C0-00-81-00-00-00, from one
Bay-Hub per IP-subnet.(Socalled Dispatch-NMM in Optivity)
Because we have around 200 subnets around the world with Bay-hubs in it,
I receive around 40 frames per second Broadcast from our WAN-Router.

The frames contain information about MAC- and IP-adresses of BAY-boxes
within the original-IP-subnet.

The Optivity-manuals say that socalled Flat-network-multicast-packets
from Dispatch-NMMs should be discarded by the router.
I assume that our Cisco-routers are configured for RSRB and therefore
bridging this broadcast into other subnets.

To ensure the accuracy of Optivity Flat Network Views, the manual states
that flat network hellos must be discarded by the router.

Now my questions to the Optivity-folks among You:

1. What is the purpose of this broadcast? Is it really a Flat-Net-Hello ?

2. Is this broadcast to C0-00-81-00-00-00 necessary to be routed over
   the WAN-links to support the Autotopology-process of Optivity ?

3. If not, does anybody know the best way of filtering these broadcast
   within a Cisco-router ?
   Is it better to set up a MAC-address-filter on C00081000000 or is it
   better to filter the SNAP-ID 000081 Type 0100.
   A little example of a filter-list is highly appreciated.
