A misconception, I think. The running map must be R/W. That does not mean it
has to be opened by a
root user. You can configure the map permissions any way you want, using the
function under 'Configure'
and have any authorized user open the map R/W. Then web users (who must NOT be
root, for other
reasons) can access it.
