Make sure you’re using one of the later revisions of RHEL5 – ext4 was there but not fully supported until 5.6 I think.

Recent chatter on a Linux mailing list I’m on noted that Redhat has chosen XFS as default for upcoming RHEL7.   One of the reasons given by them was the 16 TB limit of ext4.

While it may be that upstream versions of ext4 have gotten around this limit as suggested by Justin that doesn’t mean the version you have on RHEL5 or RHEL6 will incorporate such changes.   RedHat starts with an upstream version and usually doesn’t change to a later upstream version within a major release (RHEL5 will usually have the same upstream version it started with and RHEL6 will usually have a later upstream version but stay with that through its life.)  Instead they backport bug and security fixes from upstream into their version.

Hi,

A newish kernel+e2fsprogs supports ext4 volumes > 16TB.

Beware though, > 16TB is relatively new you may run into problems (I did in the past with a 60TB volume).

I’d recommend looking at using XFS or, if EXT4 is needed, use volumes less than 16TB.

Also I would not necessarily recommend it but you could create an mdadm-RAID 0 of the two volumes and format it as XFS, but you would be putting all of your eggs in one basket, e.g. if one of the 20 x 2.5TB LUNs failed, you would lose all of the data.

Justin.

Hello.

Just want to create a  to on my Redhat (REL5) Linux Media Server Creating file system for my MSDP pool, a 50TB (20 x 2.5TB LUNs).

- And put it firmly that the ext4 file system sizes up to 16TB only unsterstützt.

We have solved that?

-> Is there a way the MSDP "foist" multiple file systems?

-> Do you use Redhat Linux filesystems> 16TB

- >> If yes, which file system you use?
