I could have sworn I remember a way around this. It involved loading the tapes into the slots with the library (instead of Netbackup), telling Netbackup, from the command line, to pick up the tapes in those specific slots and read its electronic label instead of applying barcode rules. I can’t find the commands in my cheat sheet, but maybe it will spark someone else’s memory.

You can delete the media from volume manager, change your barcode rules to the old way, run an import, and change your barcode rules back. We keep quite a bit of older media around here and I’ve had to do this more than once.

Hello,

I’ve been asked to restore some data from a time when we used a barcode rule using the last 6 characters (E123L3) of the barcode and as it turns out the tapes that NBU calls for the is not recognized due to media manager inventorying the tapes under the new barcode rule (TSE123).

Is there a way to change the media ID’s of the old tapes that were written back in the day when our barcode rules were different?
