Rather than rely on what they say I'd make them go to CMD prompt and give me
the output of a DIR command.
Also it may be that the issue is hidden special characters in a file name given
the oddity of the path beyond path2. There are ways to look for such things
in UNIX/Linux but I don't know the equivalent for Windows/DOS.

I am told from the Windows admins there is no path > 1024 bytes in
this location, does anyone have any thoughts on this one or has anyone
seen this before?
