My understanding is that netbackup is using the backup exec code for system state and for vss support of open files backup support.

Do you have the netbackup open file support turned on? If so are you using vss.

Do you have BESR and netbackup running at the same time.

What is vssadmin list?

Yes, I know it says info :)

But I am getting these events, and from the backup, its not backup in the System State correctly. Most end on status 1, or some end 156 or the VSS writers complain they have insufficient resources.

But what I wanted to verify, is with BESR 2010 installed with NetBackup 7.0, are these events expected. I cannot find anything on the NetBackup Tech Site telling me they can or cannot co-exist.

One particular problem, is causing a Active / Passive cluster to fail over EACH time it tries to perform a backup, and its usually after the event logged.

So in summary... anyone who has BESR 2010 and NBU 6.5 or 7.0 installed - Do they get any issues, problems or are these events expected? Its just that as the Symantec SymSNAP is part of BESR, I just wanted to understand why NetBackup was calling it!

Thanks :-)

Simon

This says “Info” so I’m not sure why you think it is an “error”.   Are your backups actually failing and if so what status and errors are they showing?

I’m not a Windows guy but I see messages like this in various Windows backups and our MS Admins never seem concerned.   The only failures I typically see on snapshot backups are when there is insufficient space to create the snapshot.

Dont think today was a good day to be working :-(

I am seeing some real issues at the moment, with NBU 7 on windows environment (2003, 2008R2, x86 / x64) and an event that is logged when a backup kicks off. In fact, this event kicks off for all volumes.

Basically, we have a product called Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 that each week takes a Image Backup of the System Drive.

What I haev noticed recently is events like the one below being logged, and only on systems were BESR 2010 is installed .

Event ID 100 Source: Symantec SymSnap

Info 67B70199: Volume \\?\Volume{3ccdf607-8321-11dc-a153-806e6f6e6963}\ supported for SnapShot.

Details:

Source: Symantec SymSnap VSS Software Provider

What I am worried about, is that this particular service that is being called is installed as part of the BESR 2010 installation. So I am not too sure why NetBackup is using it. If I disable VSS from "Client Attributes" under Host Properties, the events are still logged. I am thinking this is due to the fact VSS is enabled by default now.

Has anyone seen this? On some systems it is not a problem, but on most, there are lots of errors when it is trying to do a VSS backup.
