If you do that you'll have to restore your last full then all the
subsequent incrementals just as you would if it were going to tape. It
would be a real PITA even if they're all in one location. (Usually
restores are time sensitive anyway.) It will be faster than coming
from tape but I wouldn't do it that way.

What you might consider is doing CummulativeIncrementals instead of just
Incrementals. These will get all changes since the last Full in each
backup so you only end up having to restore the last Full and the last
CummulativeIncremental. If you have information that doesn't change
much (e.g. Operating System files, Application binaries and the like as
opposed to Database files) then your CummulativeIncrementals won't be
backing up much each night. For Database files or other rapidly
changing data you still want to do full backups as often as possible.
While the dedupe unit will save you space on multiple fulls it doesn't
eliminate the fact that the database itself expects a full restore.

For the longest time our backup schedule was Mon-thur diff Friday fulls
going to tape. Now we are implementing dedup appliances and I'm
wondering if just doing one full a month and incrementals for the other
19 business days is a good idea. It will shorten my backup window and
have less information to replicate (from one appliance to the other with
OST). Any feedback would be appreciated.

Any other suggestions are also welcome.
