I would ensure you have logging
enabled. In specific, the BPTM Log and also check any logs or Syslog messages
from your OS (sorry I do not know much about Unix, but something may well be
reported in the logs).
Ensure the logging is set to maximum
Check your Drives or Robot for errors. Do you have software
that controls your robots, or can access logs on the Robot itself, which may
give you more information about the drives.
Is it the same tape or tapes?
Any changes that have recently been made or altered to the
system before this event occurred?
This is the sort of things to look for. It may also be that
NetBackup is trying to protect something on those tapes.

backups.

seeing frozen tapes.
