Re: [Veritas-bu] Net Backup errors after Upgrade to Rel6.5
2009-12-09 13:31:21
We have found that the client side (Database Server), was
upgraded only to 6.5 base version. Master Server was upgraded to 6.5.4. We applied
the patch to the Database Server now. Both Master and Client are now on 6.5.4.
Still the multiple channels was not working. Does the Database
Server needs a reboot?
Does anyone has any ideas why the RMAN backup fails if multiple
channels are used? The backup works only if single channel is used.
Could someone help me with some ideas how to approach this issue?

I was told that both of them have been upgraded to the same
version 6.5.
I checked the following file on my Oracle server:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/version.
It has the contents: NetBackup-Solaris9 6.5
I don’t have access to master server.

The Oracle agents and the
clients have to be compatible. You can't have an agent at 5.1 with the
client at 6.5.
From the master server, do:
bpgetconfig -s <clientname> -A -L
and it will tell you the full version details of the client, excluding the
agents. You have to check the client to see what version of the agents
are installed. There are NetBackup technotes out there that detail all of
this.

I enquired with my netbackup admin
earlier. Oracle Server agents have also been upgraded. I am not sure if it is
version 6.5.0 or 6.5.3.1. I am an oracle person. I need to check with my
netbackup admin for correct version installed. However, I looked at the logs
under the following directory
/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpcd/
I found several of these lines in the
files:
“<---- NetBackup 6.5 0
------------initiated”
I guess it is 6.5.0 version. Is there
any other way to find the installed version? If so, I will request my
netbackup admin to apply the patches.

Did you update the Oracle server agents to the
same major and minor level as the master/media servers? You didn't say if you
went to 6.5.0 or applied any patches? I would at least patch to 6.5.3.1 or
higher.

The Netbackup has been upgraded
from Rel 5.1 to Rel 6.5. The oracle RMAN backups use 3 channels. It started
failing with the following errors after the upgrade. It was working perfectly
OK with 3-channels on Netbackup Rel 5.1.
I found a temporary work around -
Instead of three channels, if I use only one channel, it works.
Single channel takes a long time
to complete as it is a large production database. We need multiple channels to
work as in Rel 5.1.
Is there a permanent fix for this
(other than going back to Rel 5.1)? Could someone help?
