Here is what I think the answers are.

1.  IP address is from the hostname configured at the client, unless an interface name is specified in the bp.conf.  bpclntcmd -pn is the command to verify client communication.
2.  Images are in GNU Tar format, but the tar binary has been modified from GNU source.  Image metadata is a binary file (the catalog)
3.  Bypassing NBU commands can be done by issuing raw scsi commands to the robot, using the front panel on the library, or by using the robtest command in /usr/openv/volmgr/bin.  This will corrupt the inventory information that NBU thinks is in the library and an inventory must be performed.
4.  If the crash took the catalog with it, you would need to follow the catalog recovery steps that are emailed to you after every catalog hot backup, or find the two tapes used in rotation for your old style cold backup.  The recovery steps are in the docs.  To get all the missing data since two days ago, you will have to import all the tapes and backup images that happened since the catalog.  Good luck!
5.  You import a disk image the same way you do a tape.  bpimport.
6.  There is no catalog on the media server.
7.  Tune NBU by adjusting buffer sizes and buffer counts, network bufer sizes, tcp parameters, adding increased network bandwidth, add RAM, upgrade server, get faster tape drives, use disk staging, synthetics.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] interview questions

Hi,

I went for an interview and couldnot answer below questions properly :(

>> If you wanted to know what IP address netbackup was using to perform backups what command would you run and where would you run it?
>> How is image stored in netbackup
>> If you wanted to bypass netbackup commands and move a tape from slot 1 to drive 3 how would you do that?
>>  If your last catalog backup was two days ago and the master server crashed what would you have to do to bring your environment back up to present time?
>> How do you import an NBU image that has been written to a disk storage unit?
>> Diff b.w catalog on master and media server.  What are the critical catalogs or databases on a Media Server?
>> How would you tune NetBackup to increase backup performance?

can anyone answer this, please.

Thanks
Sachin
