Because of that fear, that is why the lawyers insist that I have the company 
bring the degausser onsite, and destroy the data on the tapes before they ever 
leave the building.

I bought some "refurbished" LTO-2 tapes, fully expecting to find 
someones old data but they were all blank. I only needed 10 of them for 
a small project. After reading the stories posted here and elsewhere 
about used media, I thought for sure I would get something. It is 
possible the headers were blanked out (quick erase) and there might be 
important bits on the rest of the tape, but I had no time to investigate.
