Both issues will be fixed in 6.5.4.
You can ask support to get a binary for second issue. ET 1483135 contains EEB 
for this for 6.5.3.
For first issue you can ask support to raise an escalation to get EEB fix.

There's no advertised workarounds for the following two bugs, but have
wondered if any of you have kludged anything together to get around
either issue:

1) http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/306309.htm
- media server behind a firewall won't span media

2) http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/317095.htm
- number of open file handles tanks the bpjobd process, hangs the Linux
box

I've just recently (past month) "upgraded" from 5.1 to 6.5.  Nice to
start running into known issues with no known workarounds (got these two
both in the same week)...  Sigh.
