[Veritas-bu] Res: Res: Upgrade 5.1MP7 6.5
2008-05-28 12:11:46
hi Simon, I got some help from a symantec friend who reads our emails, and he gave me some tips .... I had to change Windows Registry like this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config 3. Change the USE_VXSS entry to
"PROHIBITED" and save. After this all services started except for device manager. Then I ran tpext to reread the external_types file (ltid started working) and then nbpushdata -add to populate EMM. Now everything is working fine ... maybe this steps should've been done by Netbackup Install, or maybe I did something wrong (although Ive followed the upgrade docs). thanks for everybody's help cheers, Nick ----- Mensagem original ---- De: "WEAVER, Simon (external)" <simon.weaver AT astrium.eads DOT net> Para: Jeff Lightner <jlightner AT water DOT com>; Nick Anderson <nickanderso AT yahoo.com DOT br>; Mike Wigington <redclay30253 AT yahoo DOT com>; veritas-bu AT mailman.eng.auburn DOT edu Enviadas: Quarta-feira, 28 de Maio de 2008 11:14:53 Assunto: RE: [Veritas-bu] Res: Upgrade 5.1MP7 6.5 Jeff Nope ! What doesnt help, is if the OP replies off list.... then we
(as in members of this list) become even more in the dark and unaware of whether
the problem has been resolved or remains a problem. For example... although a link was sent to the OP ....
no response has come back! Everyone makes mistakes, and I agree that we should
reinvestigate all possible problems (hence the link I sent). I had or have no idea what the OP looked for on the web....
for all I know the link may be what he wants... until we get a response we will
not know :( If all else
fails? I don’t work for Symantec so I have no reason to “blame the
originator” rather than assume it is software. My observations of
others’ posts on the list as well as our own experience going 5.1 to 6.0
suggested that it doesn’t find zero errors on first run or even on second
run. The OP replied off list
saying his setup is only 1 master and 7 clients and I replied to him saying I
could see a small installation like that possibly not having any issues needing
to be addressed but even then wouldn’t be so sure.
Are you suggesting that
no one on the list makes mistakes so should never be prompted to investigate the
possibility if their experience with a given tool seems
atypical?

blame the originator Jeff ? Nick, maybe a call to
Symantec Support may assist? Although you mentioned
you have researched on the web, I could bombard you with links, but that may be
hopeless if you have already come across them. Just in
case... http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/281817.htm Simon

That sounds very suspicious to me. It took us multiple iterations of
running the check, doing cleanup and rerunning before we got to “no
errors”. I suspect you didn’t run something correctly if you had
zero errors out of the gate.
