Hi Folks,

I would like to resurrect  this topic again. We have just completed a consolidation of our three physical Windows Domino Notes mail servers to a virtual system. We have 1.3T total in data size for mail files, I also started backing up this server using NetBackup agent with Notes transaction logging enabled. The full backup takes 6 hours with two streams on LTO3 tape drives with LTO-2 tape media, the speed is around 30M/sec for each stream. This is once a week, then daily incremental backups every 12 hours. It looks a lot better as we used to do it with every day full backups. We are able to do point in time restores, just such restores takes a much longer time, as it needs to apply a lot of transaction logs from tapes. I addressed this to Symantec support to see if that can be improved as well. But over all, so far it looks not bad at all. And this is a replica/backup server, not a primary. But it will be a primary for our users per our specifics at the moment until we have all physical domino servers consolidated (two different sites). Per NetBackup, the best would be having domino server with archive transaction logging enabled as the replica/backup server and not primary for the users. If you want to hear more details, please let me know.

Thank you,
B

Are you backing up directly to tape or are you going over the network?

We back up about 125gb of Notes mail files directly to LTO3 from our
Linux-based server and average about 45mb/sec, using the Notes agent in
Netbackup 5.1MP5. Proliant DL385.
