Good info...thanks Tom...Something I'll look into. Now does anyone have a sizing recommendation for DSSU. Right now the business retention for fulls (10tb) (Once a week) is 30 days, and Incrementials (running about
.5 - 1TB per day) is also 30 days. A DSSU needs to be larger than the size of the largest image but other than that, what matters is the restore business requirement. Just remember that NBU will not destage a partial image - if a backup is running and the DSSU fills, the job will suspend while the oldest images are destaged, then start back up again. If all of the images on the volume are active, the active job will get a status 129 and be restarted later. NBU is smart enough to run a restore from the DSSU if the image is both on DSSU and tape - just remember that you should *never* delete a file from the DSSU manually but always use the NBU interfaces to do the cleanups if any need to be done (although it's generally fully automatic if you're up to date with your NBU patches).
