Sounds like you have a fairly simple environment. Your plan sounds just
fine. Just read the release notes and the upgrade guides and follow all the
steps...especially before you go from 5.1 to 6.5. Do not upgrade without
running the database consistency check and following the recommended steps
in the upgrade guide to 6.5.

I found going from 4.5 to 5.1 fairly painless unless you had a clustered
environment.

All
Some assistance if possible, as I am not fluent on Unix.

We have a single Master Server connected to a Tape Drive backing up a
client.
It currently runs 4.5 with no updated Feature or Maintenance Pack.

There is a PDF called "Upgrading to NetBackup 6.5" which talks about
upgrading from 5.x to 6.5. There is a small section discussing upgrading
from 4.5 to 5.0 or later.

The plan is to migrate from 4.5 to 5.1 and then apply the latest MP for 5.1
Then, providing the upgrade has worked, upgrade to 6.5.

We have been given a license key to upgrade to 6.5, but it makes no mention
of allowing us to upgrade from 4.5 to 5.1.

I wanted to know if there were any gotchas with this approach? Anything I
can do, or should perform to ensure a smooth upgrade process.

Any advice, or assistance is appreciated. I was going to raise a support
call as well to at least log an incident that this was the plan of action
with Symantec. This way, if something did go wrong, I would have some backup
support.

Thank you

Regards
