mount your tape somehow (see tpreq if you want an NB
way to do it)
tar -cf /dev/<tapeaddress>
/path/to/data
..or...
tar -cf /<link-to-tpreq-name>
/path/to/data
Really all there is to it.
Add a "-v" if you want to watch it
work.

How can I use plain ol' tar to write to a tape. I
would like to do a simple tar of the catalog to a tape, just for grins and
giggles.
