What you say makes sense, however, as I mentioned, my experience with
HDS modular arrays tells me he should be seeing all the disk paths
properly from the format command (no "unknown" devices).
Granted, I haven't specifically used the WMS100, but the AMS models and
Thunder 9500 series behave this way.
