Hi Sebastian,
One thing to improve you window is to create multiple partitions. We create a
new partition every month and only back that partition to tape. Then we use
the bpstart and bpend to kill the sql and ev services so we get a clean backup.
Every month end we backup the last 3 partitions and every 6 months back up the
past 12 partitions.
We protect our real RPO by replicating all the LUNs at DR.
You can also test out collections. By running your collection, you can gather
and compress the files into a larger cab file that is faster to backup.
It will take some work to tweak the ev system so that it works for your window.
Of course, replicating centerras makes this a non issue. I'm working on
selling that to my management right now :-)
I can give you more info into my environment if you'd like some reference to
scale.

is anyone doing backup of Symantec Enterprise Vault, that could offer me some
insight on how to accelerate backup performance ? A full backup takes almost 2
days. We have 3 LUNs on a EMC CX each containing 2-3 million small files
(mostly under 200k). I think the bottleneck is the NTFS filesystem layer, but
I don't see anything I could do to improve the performance of NTFS on Win2003.
