We run NDMP to LTO-3 tape here from NetApp nearstore filers.  The biggest issue 
we see is that if the filer is under significant load the backup speed takes a 
nose-dive.  Our most heavily loaded filer is barely pushing 80MB/sec, while 
other filers that are not so loaded push closer to 120.  LTO-3 is capable of 
something approaching 80MB/sec for a single drive.  For us it's so much a 
matter of what we use as storage media but how fast we can push it there.
