Abhishek,
Have you linked Oracle? I remember seeing
these errors when Oracle was not linked correctly. Create a dbclient log on
the host. If no logs are created when you run the backup then Oracle is not
linked correctly.

Any suggestions what could be the issue.

Recovery Catalog DB. Best to put it on a different machine to avoid the
"all eggs in one basket" issue.
RMAN is fully functional and is designed to work best with the DB.

Can anyone explain the advantage and disadvantage
of using control file as compare to using Recovery Catalog DB?
I heard from one DBA is that using Recovery
Catalog DB will enable more RMAN features as compare to using control file?
