The ONLY option you have is to have a master at the remote site.

You could have a small Sun server on hand to bring up as your "lost" WAN
connected master.

If you are using short names (non-FQD names) as your master definition, you
can bring up the stand-by hardware with the master name. Have a copy of the
catalog available to do a catalog restore. You could have it on the media
server disk to ftp over.

If it were my paycheck on the line, I would have the catalog going to the
"alternate" master every night.

If the WAN went down, you have the catalog ready.

Silly question is that if the WAN is down, will you have to drive to the
remote site to do the change over to the alternate master?

I have been asked what we would plan to do if the following occurs.

A restore is necessary at a remote site which contains a media server while
the network connection to the master server is not functional.
Waiting for the connection to be restored is not one of our options.
I'm assuming that some piece of the catalog data on the master is necessary
to perform the restore.

We are using a solaris 9 master/media server at the main site.
The remotes are windows media servers.
We are running netbackup 5.1 mp 4.
