Hi all,
First, the new MP4 for 6.0 is good - now NetBackup (6.0MP4) is a great product
that begins to deliver all the things we have been promissed - and that comes
from a person who is not easily convinced :)
BUT BUT there are still room for improment, specially with disk unit and
stageing and returning some of the commands that actually worked in 5.x, ie.
vmoprcmd
With MP4 there is a path to upgrade directly from 4.5 to 6.0MP4 - it's not
recommended, and it's new, meaning alot of issues is going to be repported -
what that said, i thing there will be a path from 5.1MP5 directly to 6.5 - but
u will still have all the problems with converting and centralising your media
database and implementing the EMM server - so my advice today will be, make
time, buy the symantec consultent and do the upgrade - there is alot of good
things in 6.0, NOM, support for new OS's and improved performence just to new a
few.
Good luck with the upgrade, and make sure u have good fall back plan so u can
try again :)
Best regards
Christian

Do you think an upgrade path from 5.1 MP5 to 6.5 will be possible ?

The types of changes that had to go into 6.0 are not being done for 6.5.
You think the developers ever want to go through that again? :-)
Seriously, the 6.0 upgrade was major brain surgery. 6.5 is hardly like
that - I heard one developer say that NetBackup was *NEVER* going to
have an upgrade that major again. If I recall correctly, he's been
working at Veritas something like 10 or 20 years.
Personally, I'll be glad that 6.5 won't be as revolutionary as 6.0 was.
It wasn't a lot of fun for us...
