Sort of agree - I do feel VSP is simply a rehashed OTM with those painful
files.

VSS is absolutely great - as long as your using Win2k3 :-) I have not had
any real issues with it !

If using VSP - must configure it correctly. I have also found our backups
can run 10 mins slower with VSP on, compared to turning it off.

And to be honest, with or without VSP on, the files still get backed up
(excluding .pst and db related files or open processes).

Steve - OTM was a bit of a pain, the similar Veritas-written VSP is the
same, and in my very limited experience with it, the Microsoft VSS is
similarly a 90% solution/10% annoyance.

Serious question:  referring to your assessment above, what methodology
would do better at implementing a method of getting coherent file backups of
PC files opened with exclusive write locks?
