What ever happened to free and open markets?  How exactly is hiding pricing 
from a vendor anyone could call up and get prices from helping anyone, except 
possibly the vendor to squeeze unsuspecting buyers?!  We didn't buy some 
multi-million dollar Netbackup contract we purchased a modest configuration for 
our datacenter and dr site, the total amount of which doesn't make a dent in 
the cars my VPs drive to the office.  I'm all for confidentiality, data 
security, protecting corporate secrets et all but I'd seriously consider 
resigning if any company ever came down on me for "slipping" some pricing I 
negotiated with a bunch of colleagues / like minded professionals.

PS: The vendor they first chose marked up the prices below about 60%  Caveat 
emptor.

        We just bought all new NBU6.0 licenses and paid the following - 
(everything in US$ w/ 1 year 24x7 maint)
         
        Master / Media - $4,435.32
        Client - $483.73
         
        I don't know if we got taken or not, but I'm somewhat confident given 
we beat on 4 or 5 vendors to get this pricing.
