dunno if you got this solved, or if it's too late, but you could try
duplicating the tape to a brand new piece of media.
 
I've seen in the past where a "read" or restore wouldn't work, but a
duplicate worked....then promote the dupe'ed copy to primary, and run
the restore again.

        I'm running a restore of some "critical" data but it looks like
the tape is bad.  Is there anyway to tell Netbackup to continue the
restore ignoring the bad sections of the tape?  I've tried multiple
drives and each gives me the same "restore incomplete" error / fails
with a media read error.
