There was a known problem in 5.1 with duplication within the same storage
unit.

Just to see if this is hurting you (I have done this at my 18 different NB
sites), create a new storage unit in your library called "duplication".
Make it 1 drive, on demand only. (you don't have to lessen the number of
concurrent drives in you other storage unit).

Try a duplication (manual or vault) and pick "duplication" as the
destination storage unit.

See if things speed up.

Hmm. I'm not sure how to check the MPX value, but I will look.

The dupes are slow manual or vault.

All the dest drives are superdlt. I've tried dupes from dlt700 to superdlt
and superdlt to superdlt.
The drives are direct connect (HVD SCSI) to the media server.

When vaulting is going on or manual dupes, we don't see any slowdown or
change in backups.

Mostly it seems to just sit there, move a little data, then just sit there.
Even if it's the only job running.
Strange.

Thanks for answering!

Whats is the MPX value in the policy and the storage unit..!

Is ur vault slow OR are they manual dups, is the destination drive the same
make and model. Are they connected pt-pt or fabric.

What is the wait io on the system during the vault OR dup ???

These are few things I can think of.

Hi everyone,

I've got a problem with our dupe's running very slowly.

We have the following:
We are running 5.1 mp5 enterprise

Master = pc running windows 2000
Media server = SGI Origin 2000 running IRIX 6.5
Tape library = StorageTech L700 with 4 DLT7000 and 4 SuperDlt

I've also recently started to try vaulting images from the library.
So, I am trying to dupe from tape to tape. The dupes are taking days.
A 7 gigabit image took almost 48 hours to complete.

I've checked out all the settings I could think of. Our regular backups are
running a little slow (but I know that is because of the way I am attaching
to our Netapp box) but not this slow.

Any ideas on what to check? I've even monitored cpu usage on the SGI box
using top. When the dupe's are running, cpu is 99% idle.

When backups are running, the cpu is 30-40% idle. So it looks like it's just
sitting there doing nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jess
