Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Solaris 10 & trying to work out the best way to back
up a Solaris 10 server with local zones (NetBackup 5.1). Any
suggestions or pointers to best practice?
It seems that by default :
1. the global backup will include nearly everything, including lofs
filesystems mounted in the local zones, and ufs filesystems mounted in
the local zone (by the global) or mounted in the local zone on devices
exported from the global zone.
2. the local zone backup will include next to nothing, only
non-inherited package directories (e.g. /) and ufs filesystems
(duplicate - also backed up from the global).
So I think we have several options :
1. Treat global and local zones as "normal" servers in "normal"
polcies, so global zone does majority of the backup. Use exclude lists
to exclude any ufs filesystems from local zone backup. Downside is
global zone won't know about local zone application status e.g. Oracle
(without RMAN).
2. Use ufs f/s in the local zones for data directories so they can be
backed up locally. Exclude these from the global backup. Downside is
dependent on people remembering to exclude new filesystems.
3. Exclude f/s or directory containing the local zones, from the global
zone backup. Schedule the backups from the local zone or use
bpstart_notify to generate backup streams for the f/s you want including
lofs. One downside is can't do incrementals to user schedules.
Or is there a way of telling NetBackup to back up lofs filesystems?
Or have I missed something?
thanks, Phil
