Thanks Dave, in fact I am halfway testing this now :-)
So will check back if there is an issue.

Thank you again for the clarification. Its nice to know I can clean up the
VolDB now of old tapes that were damaged due to air con issues !

Simon

5.1 mp*

Bpexpdate -d 0 -m $media

will expire all images on the tape and remove the tape from the mediaDB
however this same tape will still reside in the volDB as unassigned and
available. You would then need to run

Vmdelete -m $tape

To then delete the tape completely.

Try a test , find media that you can expire and delete.

First do a

Vmquery -m $media

and you will notice in the ouput

assigned: will have a date and time meaning that the tape is allocated

Next do your bpexpdate -d 0 -m $media

Once complete run a vmquery -m $media and you will notice the

Assinged: entry will now be blank

The pure fact that you are able to query this media even though you don't
have images on it confirms that it still resides in the volDB

And therefore you need to vmdelete -m $media to totally clear it out the
system , if it ever comes back into the system it will be treated as a new
tape.

Regards

Dave

PS , only if you have a script in place re-assinging available media back to
the scratch pool will they go there when all the images expire, by default
all new tapes go to scratch and then assigned to another pool , when they
become available the will reside in the same pool.

Ok so lets assume a tape is due to expire 25th Aug 2006 at 8:00pm

If I BPEXPDATE -d0 this tape, it will remove to scratch.

I can then eject the tape
I can go into scratch (once eject is ok) and DELETE the tape.

If I was to import the SAME tape, Netbackup would treat this as a clean, new
tape.

That's where I am now confused! I thought BPEXPDATE done ALL of this for
you?

Here is what I do, always seems to work for me.

Expire the image, where A00003 is the volume name.
/bpexpdate -ev A00003 -d 0

I then go into the GUI and delete the images, I do this because I am not
sure how to do that part command line.
