It's a Linux box running kernel version 2.2.19 running on i686
architecture. I do know that versions prior to 5.x supported it, but I'm
not sure which versions, or if 5.x/6.x still supports 2.2.19.
What we don't know is the distro. As far as I know, Red Hat and SUSE are
the only Linux distros currently supported. I do believe that at one
point, BSD or FreeBSD was supported.
That being said, I back up my Gentoo laptop daily with no problems.
