That doesn't provide his clients with an idea as to what time their
machines typically back up, which I understood as the question he was
asking.
With my clients, I give them an estimate, based on previous backup
jobs....there's almost no way to predict exactly when a job will run,
based on the scheduled time.
In my environment, I can't leave an all-day window, as I cannot have
backups running during business hours for any hosts.
My backup window starts at 8pm, and closes at 5am....any jobs that
started before 5, but are still running when I get in, are immediately
killed.
In some special cases where we have dealing with other banks after "our"
business hours, we can't start/run backups on the affected hosts untill
after 1am local time.
