If you'd been using NBU a couple gens back when the java GUI first came
out, and the X Motif GUI was still around, it was SLOW.
I used to leave Activity monitor open for months on end, as it took
nearly an hour to load.

Basically the GUI was useless, and a lot of folks got used to having to
do everything via CLI.

The GUI's gotten a lot better, but old habits die hard.
