Mark is correct that NBU still scans each folder / file. He is also correct
that the error 41 is *normally* a connection issue.

You can create the bpbkar folder on the client (netbackup/logs/bpbkar) and
set the clients verbose =5 perform the backup and then check this log. It
will show you each path that the client encounters and its actions. It will
tell you if it backs it up or if it excludes it. It will also show if there
was a connection / timeout from the client.

Post your bpbkar log if you have follow-up questions. If there is a
connection issue between the client and the media server it may also help to
enable bpbrm on the media server.
