I'm on a quest to develop a excellent NBU sizing tool but I'm hitting some
snags along the way. Was wondering if anyone out there already had anythin=
g
they'd like to share.

Right now, I'm doing it in Excel but I feel that it might be too limiting,
esp since I don't know VB.

Right now my sizing tool has separate tabs that provides the

   - *reference sheet* containing the total speeds for various bus
speeds, interface speeds and drive speeds
   - *library configurations *: (number of drives and # of drives to FC
connections illustrating the total drive throughput as well as the total=
 FC
   throughput)
   - *server configurations *: (bus speeds, # of interfaces of various
type such as HBA or GigE and then their total transfer rate and how many
drives that they'd be able to push)
   - *client configurations *: (amount of data on type of storage, backup
window, min speeds to make window, how many drives would be required to =
make
window, numbers and types of interfaces)

Some of the basic components that I'm including right now are the basic
calculations like:

(total amount of data) / (backup window) =3D (GB/hr min transfer rate to ma=
ke
window)

.. however this is very simple and doesn't take into account MPX or
Multi-streaming nor # of clients per policy.

This is where I'm hitting some resistance, putting together a formula that
can express this information properly.
I'm trying to get this tool to be useful for either an already existing
environment or a totally new one.
