I probably would not bother for this particular instance, however
validating the catalog using NBCC is not a bad thing to do. In the past
I have done this at many accounts and have fixed many problems that
would have resulted in the following:

Lost data: Usually catalog images that do not have an associated volDB
entry or the entry is unassigned. NBU will reuse the tape and overwrite
it if the tape finds it's way back into a library.

Difficult restore: No mediaDB entry. Confuses NBU when it tries to
reference the mediaDB pointed to by the image database

Errors filling up log files. This can make it harder to find real
problems.

Image catalog not cleaning up expired images completely due to
inconsistencies - Causes the catalog to continue to grow with no cleanup

Tapes not getting cleaned up after expiration - Therefore the tape
cannot be re-used. This occurs when there is a voldB and mediaDB
mismatch.

Probably other items I am forgetting about and even scarier things I
don't know about.

Monte
But why bother?? That's a lot of effort to move tapes - they may as well
stay where they are, and increase the expiry time :-)

I just wanted to be sure there was no "easy" method to do this!

Actually

You can completely move a media to a new pool. You would need to
involve
VERITAS tech support or consulting since the mediaDB entry must be
deleted
and the only way to add it back is to use engineering tools that tech
support and consulting will not give out (NBCC - NetBackup
Catalog Check and mediadbadd). VERITAS consulting has a great service
that will use NBCC to validate all of your catalogs, do any moves and
clean up any inconsistencies.

As mentioned before you would also need to unassign the media, move to a
new
pool and then reassign the media.

Dave
That is EXACTLY what I told them!! (people who know better!!)

Sure this was the case, but my understanding is this:

1) When a Media ID (or volume if you want to call it that) is assigned
to a
Volume Pool, its stuck there
2) The Volume will STAY here until its expired or manually expired or
deassigned
3) There are valid images on the media - trying to deassign could lose
them
(or cause issues)
4) Should plan better when using Volume Poole

Any comments welcome

I don't think you can change volume pools of a tape if it has images on
it.
It normally needs to be expired first, which of course will mean it can
be
re-used.
