Paul
What I would do, is verify if any changes have been made to this server (ie:
applications installed, AV update ect) that could be causing a memory leak.

As an after thought, anything that I find misbehaving, I tend to verify its
running the latest version and the OS has the latest SP or updates.

Maybe, if AV is running, turn it off perhaps as a test.

Or you could uninstall / resinstall the application again and see if the
problem continues. I was chasing a memory leak which I thought was an AV
process but in fact it was a Quota 3rd party application that was to blame!
Since uninstalling, box remains stable!

Turned out the software had an update that killed it!!
Regards

I know it's a vxvm question, but I'm guessing many of your are likely
running vxvm.

On one of my Netbackup servers (lab system) I've got a process called vxsvc
that seems to be misbehaving.
This machine has been running for about 18 months, and this only started
last week.

When the system boots, the process appears consuming 65M of memory. (which
is the same as all of my other boxes which are behaving.)
On this particular machine after about 48 hours, it's grown to the point
where it's consumed all 2GB of physical memory, and all the configured swap.
The machine hangs hard, and has to be powercycled.

If I kill the process, the system continues to work fine, except you cannot
use the VEA GUI....which isn't normally a big deal....if I need to run it, I
can start vxsvc, do what needs to be done with VEA then kill vxsvc again.

One of these days, I'll have time to work on resolving it, but for now, it's
just a nuisance.... has anyone seen this before?

Paul
