Our SAN Media Servers allow themselves to "Backup" themselves, through fibre
directly to the tape robot. This means, its faster, and it bypasses the
Network!

To give you an idea, our backups were taken 42 hours and now down to 15
hours max

That's just a rough detailed explanation

What exactly does this "SAN" Media server do?

We've got a SAN Utility running a shadow copy of one LUN (2TB) to another
LUN which I then mount on another serer and backup. Would the SAN Media
server make this process easier?

No that is what makes a SAN media server 50% of the cost of the media server
- it cannot backup clients. So unless you have some array-based copy
software that can present a snapshot of the W2K3 disks to the SAN Media
server to backup, you are out of luck.

[Veritas-bu] SAN Media Server Backup Another Client

Hi
I am sure the answer to this is "No", but I wanted to run something past you
all please if I may

1 x NBU Master 5.1 Server
2 x NBU SAN Media Servers 5.1

40 x Client Machines backed up by NBU Master
2 x NBU SAN Media Servers Backup themselves

Now I have a client Server (Win2k3) that is sharing a SAN Array as the Media
Servers. This is going to be my Windows Roaming Profile Server, therefore
thousands of files will be backed up on a regular basis.

Is it possible for one of the SAN Media Servers to Backup this 1 client. I
am not convinced it will work or maybe not allowed but perhaps someone can
clarify.

My objective was to try and do Disk Backups without the need to introduce a
3rd SAN Media Server.

Thanks
