[Veritas-bu] DLO information

Sorry, it was actually 5.0 that I tested - so it may have some of the
functions in 6.0 now.

Monte, what version are you running? I thought version 6 includes some
of the things that are on your "don't like list", like the single
instance store and better active directory integration?
I am looking at implementing version 6 in the next while and would
appreciate any ones feed backup about that version . . .
Thanks, Scott

I tested it and it has some features I like and some I do not
I like: Small SQL DB overhead
Backs up to file shares
Backs up files as they change
Caches on the desktop/laptop if requested
Network throttling
Easily deployed to users
Support was very responsive
I don't like: No single instance store
Concerned about scaling in large environments
No migration path from the old NBUPro product it
is
Replacing.
No good active directory integration at the time
I tested
it.

NetBackup DLO is a standalone application that
essentially moves data from the desktop / laptop to
another storage location. There aren't any ties into
NetBackup at all so you don't have to install server
to use DLO. Backup Exec DLO is an actual module that
plugs into Backup Exec Server. Functionally they are
the same.
Not sure how detailed you wanted an answer on
useability but it does work. Configuration can be
automated at the client level so that specific
attributes are applied when the client first connects
to the server.
Costs are around $20-25 per client.
