Ok....how are you "mounting" the data? is the server SAN attached, or is
it a map via a Data mover (or whatever the generic EMC term for filer is
now) ?
=20
if it's a map/mount of a cifs share, do you have "cross mount points"
selected in the policy?
=20
what netbackup rev, and how are you specifying the backup type
(specifying drives? or "all_local_drives")
I had a similar issue on a non-exchange server......due to a netbackup
bug....would backup the whole directory hierarchy, but no files inside
the directories.
affected 5.0 up to and including MP3, IIRC, and possibly 5.1 up to MP1.

Yes, I am mounting it to the SIME server. Yes, I can see the
database files. Yes, I even tried copying these files to a different
directory. That is what I don't understand. I have no exclude list yet
when a backup runs for that directory, only the directories are backed
up, not the files themselves. I only know this is because when I bring
up the restore screen, I only see directories. The backup has a
returned code of zero.

        Not with SIME.

        =20

SIME integrates with Exchange to take a snapshot of the exchange
database to a flatfile that can be backed up to tape, mounted on another
exchange server.

        =20

basically the same as telling SQL to do a hot backup to a flat
file, then using netbackup to backup the flat file....no need for the
SQL agent.

        =20

Kenneth, are you mounting the snap on an second exchange server,
starting exchange services and backing it up from there???? if so, then
yeah, you would need to use the exchange agent to backup that server.

        =20

you should be just mounting the volume as a share on a regular
windows server, and backing it up as D:\, E:\ or whatever.....

        =20

can you see the database files when you browse for restore,
before performing the actual restore?

        =20
